Written by on February 28, 2023

The event was hosted by Bass Odyssey Sound and marked its first staging in the Corporate Area.

DynamQ sound is no stranger to dominating sound clash organized by Jamaicans and is the defending champion in the Welcome to Jamrock Reggae Cruise Sound Clash 2022.

The ‘Crocodile from River Nile’, selector of DynamQ proved the Africans as the sound to beat after brushing aside DJ Banka from Jamaica in a five song tune for tune contest.

Clearly a crowd favourite, DynamQ sound held nothing back cutting his way to huge forwards with dubs from Bounty Killa, Junior Gong and the now deceased, Merciless.

The event featured eight sounds in the venue historically associated with cricket competition.

There was also early warm from Selector Watty representing the University of The West Indies (UWI) and DJ Texas from University of Technology (UTECH).

DJ Texas was crowned the winner after the crowd vote.

Many patrons would say the space was transformed into a makeshift burial ground as sound systems from Asian and Europe prove their mettle during 30 minutes rounds.

The Yard Beat sound from Yokohama, Japan, with their MC donning a full black ninja suit and equipped with a sword, came out swinging with freshly cut dubs.

Warrior Sound from Germany also delivered some punches with cleverly cut dub plates, customized for the occasion.

Ruff Kutt from St Elizabeth did a number relying heavily on a series of Vybz Kartel dub plates and 45s.

Host system, Bass Odessey Sound had the crowd grooving to their new and seasoned dub-plates featuring a plethora of rising artistes like Valiant and Bayka.

Spready Glory of Bass Odessey, was in his element and could do no wrong for the sound system lovers who came out in their thousands.

The loud cheers, pot cover banging and lighters was a testament the audience were engaged and the sound system culture is alive in Jamaica.
